Hurricane, Gas Prices = less tourist = +or- for tourist railroads
Tourist Railroads need ideas.
I have been spending quite a bit of time on the phone and on the Internet trying to find out what to expect as far as riders are concerned for our busy fall season. When gas prices started the fast upswing I started making some changes to try and keep my bottom line dollar the same or better with less tourists.
From what I am being told Labor Day Weekend in a lot of tourist areas was a bummer.
I have no idea what the railroad is doing but I hope they were and are smart enough to of put plan "B" into play by now. When it looks like times might be diffulcult, IMHO it is the time to get AGGRESSIVE not the time to run and hide. Thinking about the past when their was a problem looming they went into hiding. I hope they learned from history.
A interesting thread at "Railway Preservation News" The title of the thread is "Visitation and Ridership, Last Few Weeks"
What I found interesting is so far nobody has posted any ideas on what the tourist industry can do to at least do the same as last year.
Let your ideas flow. What can be done?????? Rember I am talking about a small community 2 hours away from everywhere.
