Bodie & Benton R.R.

In the very near future we intend to load the dirt bikes and camping gear into the trucks, and spend a few days in the Bodie, Ca. area doing a little exploring, paleorailfanning (necrofoaming?), and a study of the byproducts of fermentation and distillation.
In the past we've tried riding the old r.o.w. from the Mono Mills area, but met with limited success due to poor maps and the fact that every sand trail looks the same down there...
So, I thought we should try again from the North end. This is where you good folks come in.
Any decent quality maps out there? Any visual clues or cues we should watch for? Any equipment or r.o.w. remains worth mentioning? Any advice beyond "Be careful and bring water?"
