Maybe one of the many readers might be able to answer this question.
Last year when I was in the Huancayo, Peru our tour group was able to visit the Huancayo and Huancalevica Railroad Shops and discovered a railcar that I had not previously noted. It was a 50-55 ft. long. It was still lettered for it's former railroad, the Ferricarril del Santa number 7, a 3 ft. gauge line that folded in 1970. The FC del Santa operated from Chimbote to the east into the Andes.
In the 1970 a major earthquake destroyed the line. In talking to the locals in the yard they believe the car came to the H&H in 1968 before the line closed. The car has been stripped inside, but had Atlas Car & Mfg. Co., Cleveland, Ohio cast on the journals of the front trucks.
I ahve asked others if they had ever heard of Atlas, some say that they were a small railcar builder? I am going to look into Interurbans without Wires if Atlas was listed?
So can anybody add something to this story?
