Whistle signals

My wife's friend is writting a book where the characters ride a train during the early 1900s, and asked me the proper whistle signals when approaching and departing a depot. I emailed her the SVRy signals as we use them:
Approaching stations (entering yard limits) = one long whistle signal.
Stopped at station and applying hand brakes = one short whistle signal.
Departing station = two short whistle signals if locomotive is moving forward. Three short signals if moving in reverse. These are the signals used for any locomotive movement.
The bell is used when moving in the yard or passing by any structure or cut of cars on adjacent tracks.
Some Engineers give a long whistle signal when leaving the yard limit, but it is not a requirement according to the SVRy Rules book.
One additional signal used for approaching a waitting or meeting point is two long and one short whistle signals. This would be used for movements like approaching a location to load or unload ballast (or whatever) where a crew is waitting.
What do other historic/tourist roads use?
