I had not stopped in Salida for many years, but last week I had a chance to
get out and walk around a bit. The yard is mostly removed with the mainline, siding, and a spur
into the area of the former lime processing plant remaining. All 'keep out' signs placed by UP
appear to be gone, and rather 'improved' hike and bike trails from the depot site
now run across the yard for Tenderfoot mountain access.
My walk included the lime facility (former machine shop) which is unused and being vandalized to a tremendous
degree.
First picture is looking to the northwest, second southeast, and third the northwest exterior.
I was surprised to see the original doors leading to the roundhouse, and rails still in the floor.
Be fantastic to be able to preserve this building with artifacts sure as K37 #499
Anyone know when the facilities we last used by DRGW?
