Part the mission of Sumpter Valley Railroad Restoration has always been to collect and preserve equipment from the original Sumpter Valley Ry. and associated lumber companies. This scan is from a slide that probably dates back to the 1970's or 80's which captures the body of a Sumpter Valley stock car. It was built to hold livestock and continued to do so even at this late date. Our organization has recovered four stock car bodies over the years, but I have no idea if this is one of those. The stock cars are problematic to identify by number because the railroad simply attached a board to the side with the number painted on and those number boards probably did not survive very well. One of the recovered stock car bodies is on trucks and located at the DeWitt Museum / SVRy Prairie City depot. Two bodies are at our McEwen yard, with a third on trucks located down the valley about 1/4 mile as advertising. The scan is from the SVRR Archive.
