Last weekend, I was at the New Mexico State History Museum in Santa Fe. There was a special section on railroading in New Mexico. One of the exhibits was this photo of a wreck on the D&RG:
The caption states the following:
"Wrecking boss and his crew try to untangle a Denver and Rio Grande Railroad train wreck east of Durango, Colorado, ca. 1905"
The photo appears to show two C class locomotives wrecked with a stock car on top of the second locomotive. No locomotive numbers are visible, but the end of the shattered freight car appears to be 5705. The hillside in the background appears to have scrub oak and some rocky terrain.
Does anyone have any further information on this wreck?
