This log loading scene captures narrow gauge Shay, Oregon Lumber Co. #102. Shays #101 and #102 were sisters purchased new in 1907 and came lettered for Sumpter Valley Ry. They were clearly intended for Sumpter Valley's parent Oregon Lumber Co. and were subsequently re-lettered as such when it came time for a paint job. Note that the engine has a gypsy winch on the pilot with the engineer out of the cab operating the winch for loading logs. #102 was parted out of service by 1941 and parted out within a few years. The boiler was repurposed in a laundry and is today on display at SVRR's McEwen, Oregon base of operations. The scan is from the SVRR Archive.
