Folks,
Late last month, I was fortunate to attend a special photo shoot held at the Laws Museum near Bishop, California, featuring Southern Pacific 10-wheeler #18, aka the "Slim Princess." This has been a bucket list item for me since the engine was first at Laws back in 2017.....and I wasn't.
When I heard about the 2017 event, I wondered how much could be achieved with a few pieces of infrastructure and a couple of hundred yards of track. Well, the answer was, QUITE A LOT. I saw photos from friends such as John West, Steve Barry and Martin Hansen.....and I've been crying in my beer ever since. When it was announced earlier this year that SP #18 would be visiting again, and that my friend Pete Lerro would be running a special, 2-day photo shoot, I was quick on the trigger to book it. I attended both days of Pete's event, and I also paid my way into one of the public events which occurred in the following days. It was everything I had hoped for and more.
Like a few other locations around the US, (Alna, Orbisonia, Chama, Ely, etc.), Laws is like a little railroad yard frozen in time. The place is like a movie lot with railroad infrastructure, some rolling stock (which really does roll) and killer scenery surrounding. And did I mention that we had sunshine and chilly air both days? Rather than waste one more minute, I will let the photos do the talking. Here's an album showing some of the best. I have a ton more, but I had to draw the line someplace. This was the best photo shoot that I have attended in quite some time.

Thanks for looking!
