--- WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!! ---
-- Next session July 10-11 --
The biggest help to the Rockhill Restoration Crew making progress toward restoring the EBT is YOU! We need you to come out and help. One weekend, one day, one afternoon, one hour - it all makes a difference. The "Regulars" are doing as much as they can but they need your help!
Any of our volunteers will attest that there is an immense sense of personal satisfaction that goes along with volunteering at the EBT. There are not words to express the feeling of visiting the railroad and seeing the car you helped restore running, or peering into the shops through the windows you helped rebuild. And all of those efforts together help to save America's most historic railroad!
On that note, this week's Restoration Pic of the Week is one in which I take a lot of personal satisfaction myself.
This should be a view a lot of readers should recognize. The entrance to the main shops is most visitors' introduction to the incredible EBT Shops. For the past couple of decades the area around the main entrances was indicative of the problems plaguing the shops in general. Boarded up windows, broken glass and loose boards.
Starting in Mid-2003 a small crew started removing boards and rehabilitating the window sashes. Some had to be taken to home shops to be rebuilt fully while others were fixed in place. Glass was installed and nearly a hundred panes were needed just for this area. The primer on the wood really defines the windows again and spruces up the appearance of the building.
Although they look much better and have glass in them again, the work even here is not done. Many still need pudy or a finish coat of paint. This is but seven windows in a complex of over a hundred and fifty. There are well over three hundred in the yard, so much work lies ahead.
