US Army 254 Former DRGW 475

Sergeant Guy Latham snapped this shot of one of the army crew men on the White Pass & Yukon. Many of his photos were focused on the his fellow railroaders, but the back drop is so often railroad equipment. In this case we have US Army #254 which was former Denver & Rio Grande K28 #475. Someone had fun with chalk on the tender, perhaps signifying the home towns of the engine crew. The scan is from the SVRR Archive.
