On May 15th,16th 2021 the Colorado Railroad Museum will have D&RGW 491, D&RGW 346, and of course RGS 20 all fired up at once. The genus of this event was to honor our dear late friend Fred Oster(and it still is), however we wanted to share this with everyone. Additionally we will be kicking off a new Locomotive maintenance fund, and celebrating 346 turning 140 years old.
The new locomotive maintenance fund will be used to ensure the operation of all our locomotives far into the future.(Including the Diesels.) This will be a new fund that anyone can donate towards, the larger the fund the more there is for future boiler work, overhauls, new parts and more.
In the morning we will run a parade with all three engines with their own caboose. Then RGS 20 and D&RGW 346 will kick off train rides with a 10:00 am double header. 20 will pull trains the rest of the day, with another double header planned for 1:00 pm.
D&RGW 491 will return to the roundhouse after the parade and remain hot for viewing and the occasional run onto the turntable for demonstrations. 491 has been our big mainstay locomotive for 7 years now and is in need of some pretty major work. In fact after this event she will be removed from service and we will be contracting the D&SNG to perform just a portion of the necessary work. She will return to service later in the year as a back up for Day out with Thomas and of course as the lead for Polar Express.
This is going to be a fun event to kick off the summer, and you wont want to miss it. Especially 3 hot engines posed at the shop at the end of the day with 318 thrown in for fun.
Something like this.
