A Stock Car Mystery...

December 05, 2003 02:14PM
Since we have had some fun with the Orange Reefer question, let try this one....
I've read before that none of the 5900's Stock Cars ever got a double deck. I think Vic Stone's "Taking Stock" agrees with that statement.
I was surprised later to find a foot-note in a book (I cannot remember which one) that one (1) of the 5900's had a double deck. Nobody was able to step up and settle that mystery.
Now I just got my Narrow Gauge Annual from my local hobby store. A large portion of this Annual is devoted to Stock Cars. A section on the D&RGW 30' Stocks, the RGS/C&S Stocks and a section on the 34' Stock.
Again in this Annual the * appears with the footnote at the bottom (*) Stock Car 5963 recieved a double deck circa 1950. So this keeps the myth going.
I have NEVER seen a photo of 5963 with a double deck. I would love to see one if anyone knows what the real story here is. (Of course I modeled the 5963 years ago and built a double deck in it, just to catch the rivit counters)
