Just a couple from May 1993.
No. 488 moves from the shop on the morning of Thursday, May 6, 1993. Today 488 will push a couple of loads of ballast up to the state line, where soft track is causing derailments. The rotary outfit has spent the last three nights out on the line (one night at Cresco, two nights at Cumbres) to minimize passage over the soft spot.
Later that day, OY plows east from Cumbres. Much of Wednesday had been spent servicing the rotary outfit at Cumbres after two long days of plowing. Plowing east from Cumbres didn't resume until Wednesday afternoon, and got only as far as MP 328 or so. Thursday the crew got as far as Osier before calling it a day. Believe it or not, the original goal had been to plow Chama to Cumbres in one day, Cumbres to Antonito in one day, and return to Chama on the third day. The snow was a lot harder packed than anyone suspected.
