Hi,
Just got back from Pa Dutch area. Strasburg was great. Found a great a hole-in-the-wall pizza joint that reminded me of the one I found in Chama. Of course Chama does not have the Amish riding around with sign posts saying "to our Amish Friends - thanks for coming. Please clean up after your horses"

Only gripe I had was the response to the e-mail I got from the Strasburg RR before I left to visit. I asked about shop tours and if they were running steam on the Friday after Thanksgiving.
LOS 10 12 1 2 was rather criptic and I later found out that it was the Lancaster Oxford and Southern railbus #10 originally built as a narrow gauge coach in 1885. (If that is the worst gripe, that's not too bad over all).
They claimed it was the oldest or one of the oldest pieces of equipment in regularly schedulde operation. I think some of the original D&RG passenger stuff at either Knotts Berry Farm or on the D&SNG may be close on that claim.
I did see the dual gauge on the outside of the shops. I was wondering if it might not be the newest dual gauge installed by a common carrier? Yes, it's only a couple of hundred feet

It certainly needs an "End of Third Rail" sign".

Unfortunately, due to no advanced warning, I missed the shop tour and did not get to see 346 even though she was there.

Although not narrow gauge, the Strasburg RR has the site staked out for an Amtrak/SRR joint depot and turntable on the former PRR end. They also have an ex-L&N table at the shops waiting for installation. The intention is to be able to let passengers ride Amtrak to the Strasburg and then the behind steam or in the railbus to the town and finally horse drawn buggy to the hotels and restaurants.
Too bad Antonito is not served by Amtrak. I'm sure we could come up with a buckboard and some horses. Anyone interrested in a weekly train from Denver or Trinadad to Antonito?
Merry Christmas.
