I came across this formula in one of my steam loco books dated 1921.
2
TE = .85 OP x d x s
_______________
D
Where OP = Boiler operating pressure
d = Diameter of cylinder
s = Stroke length
D = Driver diameter
I plugged in the numbers for K27's, K28's, K36's
and K37's and they all worked.
An interesting thing is that the only difference in tractive effort between a K36 and a K37 is due to the higher boiler operating pressure of the K37. All the other elements are equal!
