The Sumpter Valley Railway hosted its third annual Fall Foliage and Photographers Special today, and it couldn't have gone better. For starters, the weather was gorgeous, cold enough in the morning for great steam shots, then warmed up well past the seventy degree mark in the afternoon. A lot of effort went into making this years train the best ever. Over a half dozen pieces of rolling stock went through the paintshop alone, and everything else recieved at least minor cosmetic attention. Though some readers may not be fond of well polished photo trains, we believe a season finale like this requires all equipment to look its best. And, there were numerous historical additions as well, ranging from caboose number 5 regaining the cupola awnings that have been absent since 1947, to locomotive 19 getting a far more accurate coat of red paint over her previously varnished cab windows and doors. Anyway, while the train did not sell out, those that were welcomed aboard got the full experience, with many of the run-bys and photo-ops catered to specific requests. All in all, it was a stupendous day, and the railway is extremely grateful to everyone who gave it their all to make this a memorable event.
Enjoy, Taylor
