Ouray and the box canyon

I always wondered what it would have been like to hear a steam whistle in Ouray. Those who have been there know that Ouray sits in a box canyon and is nearly surrounded by shear mountain cliffs. We used to spend our 4th of July's in Ouray on top of one of the cliffs and watch the fireworks--it was quite sight and sound as the fireworks echoed off the canyon walls. Now that I look back and ponder--it must have been a truly magical time when a train was whistling into town or out. Wish I could have experienced it first hand. Just wanted to share some thoughts.
