In Loveland Colorado, the Great Western Railway has a shed made out of the body of Colorado & Southern narrwo gauge boxcar #8310. About 1/3 of the body of C&S #8301 is part of this shed as well. The bdy of 8310 is sound and its metal roof is in good shape. One of the side doors is still there, complete with hardware. On the down side, the end walls have been removed, but 8301 could donate one end wall and the parts to make the other.8310's steel underframe, trucks etc. are of course long gone.
The Great Western wishes to get rid of the sehed and has said I may have the car if I move it. Thus the question, is this car worth saving? C&S narrow gauge cars are few and far between, but this would be a major project. On the other hand, a passable replica underframe would not be too hard to make, find some trucks and you would have a neat display.
Again, is it worth saving? And if so, any ideas on what to do with it? I am guessing that it would cost $500 to $1000 to move it to the Boulder County Railway Historical Society's site in Boulder where it could be stored, awaiting a better use. If anyone feels that the car is worth saving, would they be interested in helping to cover the costs of moving it?
Thanks
