Existence of carbodies.

February 17, 2003 08:09PM
Some questions for those of you who have some answers.
Recently, in a conversation with a well known rail preservationist, I was informed of a couple of D&RG carbodies that he knew about that I had never heard of.
They are both in Delta county. One was reported to be in poor shape as of the 1970's, and was reportedly a business car retired a VERY long time ago. It was located right along US 50, painted barn red.
The other was a RGS passenger car, likely the 258, on a ranch in the county. It was reportedly owned by a man who had once worked for a Grand Junction radio station and had wanted to start some sort of short railroad on his ranch. He also owned a D&RGW boxcar and RGS caboose 0500.
Also, what ever happened to Mailcar 51 in the Alamosa stockyards. I assume it's long gone, but I have never heard of it's final fate.
