OK folks, here is a question for any steam locomotive experts out there- What precisley is a laird on a steam locomotive? If you locomotive's laird has a large crack in it what have you done?
Apparently D&SNG 482 suffered a craked laird in December, on a trip to Cascade, and was unable to continue the trip to Durango. So obviously a craked laird is not a good thing, however I still have no clue what a laird is. (In high school my friend had a crush on a girl named Laird (same spelling even) but I seriously doubt that that has anything to do with 482's problem.)
