Cedar Rapids, Ia. television station KCRG produced the above linked video essay on the recent overhaul of Midwest Central locomotive #6.
Built in 1891 by Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Surry Sussex and Southampton Railway, the flagship engine of the MCRR was disassembled for boiler rebuilding and major component overhaul in 2008.
Desiring to return the engine to service in time for the 50TH anniversary of the railroad, the members of the MCRR at times working 18 hour days, succeeded in having the engine steamed up for whistle off, right on schedule.
The video essay accurately portrays the challenges faced when attempting to overhaul a 120 year old locomotive.
Accolades to my friends, the volunteers of the Midwest Central Railroad for demonstrating commitment, tenacity and perseverance to return this beautiful engine to hopefully long tenured service
