NNG- Catalyst Paper Accepts Bid For Snowflake Paper Mill And Apache Railway

Poor Apache Railway , it seems like three owners now and a "rosey"
future? At least it looks like a save for the Apache and the many
Mill workers who depend on the paper mill for a living. One worker
pointed out in a newspaper article " I was born here , I want to
die here in north eastern Arizona. "I could move to Phoenix and
get a job but thats no place to rase kids these days". I lived in
the White Mountain Area for six years of my "57". And it was a
beautiful place to live.
But the timber industry in general as we all know has been almost
delbt a death blow now for over forty five years in that region
and through out the west. Between the "Apache Tribe" and I guess
rightly so , logging on the reservation probably running on
borrowed time especially because the Apache log and cut there own
lumber anyway. But the environmental community has no balance
in my opinion at all. For an example Southwest Forrest Industries
was practicing environmentalism in the early 1970s before you were
an outcast for even mentioning "slective" cutting instead of "clear
cutting". Still no matter what if you are the timber industry You
are a "Bad Boy" to the environmentalests. Man shouldn't destroy
the earth but he shouldn't return to the "Stone Age " eather.
Why should a now politically powerfull group dictate where or how
one should make his or her living? You will Work In A Green
Industry!!
At least some are in agreement to thin the badly overgrown forrests
in the west and now in Arizona with the new lumber mill being built
near Winslow. Mabe this will help the Snowflake Pulp Mill with a
economic source of pulp. That has been the woe of the paper mill
in snowflake since the enviromentalests shut down timber cutting
in the White Mountains because of the other excuse , "the Spotted
Owl". As for the Apache I hope as well as all in the railroad
community hope it will continue to live on and also keep the
Alcos which they understand and love!
