Why did the South Park abandon the Mason Boogies?

In order not to hi-jack the other thread about the Mason Boogie locomotive I'll ask my question in a new thread.

Why did the South Park abandon the Mason Boogie?

The railroad was certainly invested in this type of locomotive and certainly knew how to both operate and maintain these locomotives.

Was the expense of maintainence too high? Spare parts becoming an issue? Was the type less effective as a locomotive than more conventional narrow gauge power being developed?
