The Colorado newspapers are reporting an initial 40-50 acre wild fire North of Durango. Named as the "Schaff Fire," it's location was West of the D&SNG RR, Animas River & confluence with Cascade Creek.
Story indicates 40 men were taken in by train, of which 20 were from the Forest Service Hot Shot team stationed at Mesa Verde National Park. The others from Durango Fire & Rescue and D&SNG RR.
One tanker plane used to drop slurry and two helicopters for hauling water from the Animas River.
The fire was reported at 11:45 am on Saturday morning by the D&SNG RR, however no cause for this fire was stated.
As of night fall it was not contained !!!
