#474 - What a Hog!

June 01, 2002 11:06AM
I have been spending time this last few days at the DPL website.
I did a keyword search for #474 (I'm checking out the K-28's currently) and found a number of Otto perry images of 474 which are worth checking out.
While #474 was apparently only used for freight service, she did her job very well, indeed. There are pictures of 474 hauling trains of 42 and 56 cars in and out of Crested Butte. Unbelievable!
Also, for what it's worth, you will glean that the flying herald was applied to this engine between June and October 1941. And yeas, there is plenty of silver trim.
I'd never thought much about 474. What a hog she was.
The DPL address is: [gowest.coalliance.org]
Click search, and follow directions.
