With the recent talk of 346 being the engine of choice due to the snow cover (low fire danger), I was wondering how often did locomotives cause fires?
Now that I think about it, it must have happened quite a bit. Lobato seems it was likely caused by a locomotive. In 2006, I was at the Nevada State Railroad Museum when the Inyo started an old flatcar ablaze. Lucky for them, they had a firetruck on rails on display running behind #22 and was able to put it out.
Would an experienced crew be able to cut down the ammount of sparks? There must be some good stories out there...
