The thread earlier about the recovery of SVRy box car 1353 and the list of other SVRy equipment still extant made me think of the mystery motor cars. Here is the story I have been told: the museum that used to be privately owned at Haines, Ore. had 2 or more of the old SVRy motor cars. I remember this museum from when I was a kid in the late 60's, but don't recall the cars. This museum was apparently liquidated perhaps in the 1970's or early 80's. The rumor I heard was the cars were sold to someone in Nevada. It would be neat if they could be located and even reacquired.
I put together a roster of SVRy MOW motor cars several years back, with only 2 #'s being unknown. These were #10 and #16. All of the others I was able to get a description of. As we don't actually have the AFE's from 1916 to 1935 anything purchased in that time frame and also retired between those years I can't account for. Fortunately for all the others the retirement AFE's provide the data on what they were and when purchased. Most of the MOW stuff was retired in 1946, but the 4 newest remained to be retired in 1947. Taking a WAG that these might be the ones that went to the museum then Nevada, here is the info on them:
#18 constructed by SVRy shop in 1936 using Fairmont 6HP QHB engine.
#19 constructed by SVRy shop in 1936 using Fairmont 8Hp QBA engine.
#20 Fairmont Model ST2 series D with 8Hp QBA engine purchased 1938
#21 Fairmont Model S2 series E with 8Hp QBC engine purchased 1939
