Otto Perry turned his camera on the Sumpter Valley in July 1938 and this is one of his photos from the Denver Public Library Collection. Location is East bound out of Austin. SVRy Eng 17 is on the point with #19 as the rear helper. To the right of the rear helper is the 4 stall engine house, water tank is on the left, with the depot being directly West of the water tank.
Back in July, we drove down the old ROW to try to take a photo from the same spot. The bovine seemed so interested in what I was doing, actually walking closer that I didn't have the heart to chase it out of the shot. The white house with over hanging porch to the left of the old ROW is on about the depot site, but is not the depot. Some have speculated that it was in highly remodeled form. Unfortunately a photo surfaced showing the water tower remaining in the early 60's, but the depot site clearly an empty lot. To the right of the old ROW, the white house shown is a former SVRy company house constructed in 1917. It would be just West of the engine house location.
