This is one of the photos taken on the White Pass during the period in WW2 when the US Army was operating the railroad. I suspect that this shot was taken out the window of a helper engine. The landmark bridge in the scene crosses Dead Horse Gulch near the summit of White Pass and was built in 1901. The structure behind the bridge was a covered turntable. A new bridge further into the gulch was built in 1969 with this one bypassed and out of service. The scan is from a digital collection donated to our SVRR archive by Jerry Latham, son of Sergeant Guy Latham who likely took the photo.
