C&S 8027 has had all of its new grab irons installed (if you need new grab irons of any size for a restortaion project, I can highly reccomend Pennsylvania Railcar Company) and received a couple of coats of its paint. The paint color is close to the original paint I found on the door posts of 8027 and on the siding of C&S 8301, a very deep red brown, that is mostly brown.
Next will come lettering and brake beams, and then (most likley next year) needle beams, queen posts, truss rods, and couplers.
Below are a couple of shots of the car from yesterday;
Also, some interesting trivia, the St. Charles Car co. stenciled the car's identity ( C&S Ry Co 8027) on the intermediaite sill, by the side door, using the same stencil that they used inside the car. I have never seen this on another car and di not notice it on 8027 until I was installing the pipe that can be seen in the photos below. (the pipe is serving to hold the ends of the car together until proper truss rods can be fabricated and installed)
