Riding the Welsh Highlands Railway - Tourist Question

September 05, 2010 08:15PM
After successfully getting the wife to ride the White Pass I have discovered the key to riding all the foreign narrow gauge lines I want to visit appears to be if the train can be ridden in connection with a cruise she's game.

The next two narrow gauge lines I really want to cross off my have never ridden list is the Welsh Highlands Railway and The Hartz Mountain line.

Are there any cruises to the British Isle that include the WHR as part of the package? Thus far I have not been able to find any.

We turned 48 this summer and the good wife wants to go on a special vacation to celebrate our 50th birthdays! I have roughly 18 months to plot to obtain a ride behind a narrow gauge Garrat or a metre gauge 2-10-2 and am leaning toward the Garrat at the moment.

Any and all comments or advice on how to reach the WHR as a tourist and make it a good trip for a non-railfan spouse are appreciated.
