The 15-inch gauge Royal Gorge Scenic Railway, west of Canon City, was sold to an unnamed buyer. The railway, along with neighboring attraction Buckskin Joe's will be dismantled and moved.
The railway opened for business in 1958 by Don Tiner, of fond memory. The original gas-powered two-unit locomotive is now at Tiny Town. The lone steam locomotive to run on the line is at McComrick Railroad Park in Scottsdale, AZ. Five other gas-powered engines were used.
On a personal note, I am sorry to see it go. Five generations of McCandlesses rode this railroad.
