In July 1960, my wife and I were on our Honeymoon. It was a coast to coast trip, ending in NYC. One week was spent in the Durango/Silverton area.
It was our first contact with the Colorado narrow gauge world but certainly not the last. On two different days, we were in the Durango yards and I took many color photos. We also rode the once a day Silverton Train, and had quite a few adventures.
I have posted the Durango photos, including K-37 no. 495 taking a train down to Farmington, although we followed it only as far as Bondad. Almost everything "railroad" in the photos, except the engines, possibly some of the rolling stock, the depot, and the turntable, no longer exists. The roundhouse burned in February 1989, although some of the walls may have been reused.
