Hello all -
Sixty years ago today C&S #638 ran under her own power – and without a diseasel helper! – from Denver to Trinidad where, SFAIK, she is still on display. I thought I had posted these ten years ago on the 50th anniversary of her final run but couldn't find the post, so if this is a repetition please forgive me. Also please forgive the fuzziness of these shots, which were taken with my dad's old camera that was obviously well-filled with locomotive cinders by that time and for which I didn't yet have a tripod
. . .
These first two were taken during a run-by at Palmer Lake, a tiny and isolated village back in those days and surrounded by houses and shopping malls today
:
The next three are at the second and final run-by of the day, somewhere between Pueblo (Pee-eblo, per the locals) and Trinidad
:
At this point I jumped ship and mooched a ride back to Colorado Springs, where I had a final in European History at General Palmer's own Colorado College the next day. Needless to say, my grade on that exam was NOT spectacular — but who cares today???
