D&S Dilapidated Freight Cars

Here's another question from my trip. On the journey up to Silverton we passed a whole line of really dilapidated freight cars. On some, the roofs had collapsed. I mentioned this on the D&S questionnaire that was sent to me on my return as I felt it gave a bad impression of the railroads responsibility for it's heritage. I know that the D&S is a business but it did not give a good impression.
I don't know if anyone else feels the same about this and possibly as visitor from outside your country I don't know the full story but does anyone know if there are any plans to save at least a few of these cars before they disappear completely?
