My significant other and I made a trip to Durango and environs in early July and she was kind enough to allow some photography (as long as I obliged with some shopping.for pottery and jewelry. fair trade..) Believe it or not I was primarily interested in catching the ex-WP&Y DL535Es since I missed them* during a recent trip to Skagway. *Well they had a 3-unit set on the pad at the Shops but I only caught single units switching passenger cars and running the loop track. Not quite the same thing.
Anyway, I did catch the D&S MLWs working along with a few of those beautiful Baldwins, including a double-header behind a K-28 and K-36. The latter caught me by surprise being the slacker who wasn't paying attention to the forum.. sometimes a surprise like this is better though! - Jesse
Here's 103 arriving at Silverton on July 9.
On July 10, 103 was northbound at Rockwood.
Later that morning, a double-header was northbound at Hermosa:
And finally, I witnessed this southbound behind 480 coming into Rockwood Cut. This was simply one of my favorite railfan experiences of the trip--make that all time. I sat for about 30 minutes waiting, relaxing, smelling the pines, watching a few rafters hiking the ROW, then finally hearing the train slowly pulling up from the Animas Gorge.
