As we fly past the 50 year mark of the abandonment of the Farmington Branch, I sit at my desk and wonder how it vanished like it was never here. No rails, no stations, no ties, just a few bridges, the collapsed remains of the Bondad water tank and a caboose in the Aztec Museum. I still fail to understand why there’s so few pictures, maps and structures preserved. A forgotten ghost as time goes on and yet people forget why these towns like Aztec, Farmington and Flora Vista even exist. What I do know is a good chunk of the line is now a park, the river walk and berg park following the animas river in Farmington and Aztec, the Old Aztec Highway road and a bridge forgotten next to the San Juan River isolated by private property and trees. Does anyone have any photos they could share of structures or maps?
Thanks. -JS
