I just purchased a fascinating photo book on the Alishan Forest Railway. It is in Japanese but photos don't need translating! I do have a couple of questions if anyone is knowledgeable about the railway and its equipment.
Many of the 28 ton Shays have been rebuilt with very large diameter stacks and have some sort of large diameter cylindrical device directly behind the stack. Does anyone know why the stacks are so large and what the device is or does?
