Greetings:
I would like to obtain a photo of WP&Y No.7, later No.57 built by Baldwin c/n 16456. This locomotive later Klondike Mines No.3 and currently is on display in a building in Minto Park at Dawson, YT and you can not get a decent photograph where its at.
The photo ought to be a 3/4 or profile view, publication quality, in which the cylinders are clear of steam, etc.
This is the last conventional rod locomotive in North America which was built with and still has Vauclain compound cylinders. Yes, the are surviving Pikes Peak locomotives with Vauclain cylinders but they a rack type, not conventional rod locomotives.
There were over a thousand Vauclain compound locomotives built, but except for this one, they were all rebuilt with conventional cylinders long before they were scrapped.
The Vauclain compound was an ingenious idea, but in practice they were difficult and expensive to maintain and cost the railroads far more to maintain them than the fuel they saved.
Thanks in advance for any leads for a source.
