C&TSRR TV Commercial - RC Helicopter run away

We spent all day Wednesday & Thursday out on the line shooting footage for a new C&TSRR commercial. The plan was we would be using 2 video cameras and a remote control helicopter with a video camera attached. We used Rich Muth as our spokesman

Tuesday morning we shot Cumbres Pass and then on the train to Osier. Hurried out of Osier and headed for Los Pinos to get the train crossing the trestle. We had made arrangements for a runby there after the first time across the trestle. We set up at MP 326 and tested the helicopter and then the train was getting close so we all got ready and Andy put the helicopter in flight and it headed for the train. After the train crossed the trestle Andy hit the come home button and the helicopter came right back to above where it had taken off. Perfect just like the test.

We moved down the ridge to be closer for the runby. We got set up and Nick radioed the train and we started shooting and the helicopter took off for some more video of the train. Everything was working perfect and we all were very happy and smiling big time. After the train crossed the trestle Andy hit the come home button while we all starting getting our equipment ready to take back to the cars. Oooooops the helicopter decided it did not want to come home but instead headed up and across the valley, Andy was continuing to try to get control but nothing he did was working. We watched the helicopter get farther away towards the tree line going left and right and up and down across the valley and then it went down. We decided we had to go and try and find it so the hike started. Nick, Chris & Andy headed towards the last place we saw the helicopter. I was wearing moccasins so I waiting by the cars, they crossed the creek and heading into the trees and after a while they came out with no helicopter and then they turned North West and started searching again. YIPEEEEE they found it and then they started the hike back to the cars. Andy says it is repairable and it won't be to expensive to repair it. The camera was still running so we are thinking there might be footage not only of the train but also of the run-a-way and the crash.

Thursday a lot of footage was taken and no unexpected excitement.
