Rubber Cement weathering

I needed to paint another Xmas box car and I remember a photo that Mr. West took that inspired me to try to mimic the appearance of aged wood below peeling paint.

Love the box cars in this photo. Thanks again for the great photo.

So I grabbed my little pc. of history and started thinking of how to do it. I have held on to this pc. of wood for just this project.

The method of choice this time would be using rubber cement. I first painted the base colors that will show thru the red final coat.

Then the fun starts with the cement. I dipped the tip of a brush in the cement and added light coats randomly all over the car.
Then got out the red paint, painted over all the car and when the red was dry I wiped off the cement to reveal the beauty below.
