I’m sure many of you are aware of Big Boy 4014’s return to the rails next month. The 4014 will be going through Marshall, Texas again on the return trip from New Orleans. The T&P #400 is in Marshall and I would like advice on cosmetic restoration so the #400 can look her best for visitors. I have composed a list of short and long term goals to do:
Short:
-repaint forward switch boards
-pressure wash entire locomotive
-fill in rust holes on sand dome
-make replacement lid for sand dome
-replace air hose on tender
-reconnect water and oil lines from tender to locomotive
-remove rust
-clean cab
-reinstall throttle
-reinstall CB&Q 5 Chime (which for some reason was not stolen)
-apply “E-4A1” lettering on both sides of the cab (which would be under the first zero in 400)
-add keep off signs to tender and running boards
Long:
-add pathway to cab
-replace Pyle National Classification Lamps (I have recently purchased one and I’m currently hunting down another)
-replace boiler jacket (which was scrapped in 2005)
-repaint locomotive boiler grey
-replace backlight
-replace builders plates
-replace superheater plate
-replace locomotive and train brake handles
-replace cab windows, curtains, and arm rests
-replace that dang water bucket
-restore locomotive to operation
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance.
Yours truly repainting the #400 back in April.
