D&RGW MOW Flat paint schemes

Folks,

I am finishing up my SJCC On3 MOW Flat car set and have some conflicting info regarding their actual color combinations. The SJCC instructions indicate that the bodies were painted grey around 1944 and that the undersides and trucks were painted black. Now after looking at the same NG Pictorial that SJCC refers to, as well as a wealth of other available pictures on-line and my own observations of these 3 cars at Chama, it would seem that this is not correct. It appears that both the undersides and trucks of many of the MOW cars were actually grey, with the trucks assuming a black color over the years due to leaking oil, lubricants etc..

So, does anyone know for sure what these cars would have looked like in the mid to late 1940's?
