I was reviewing the early winter report on the C&TS News page, and noticed that once again the K-36's are in the shop for extended periods while 463 and 497 get "bad-mouthed" [extra big smiley]
" /> for being not-ready-for-prime-time but will be out on the road the first day of the year.
Can somebody (Earl?) theorize as to why the two outcasts seem to be ready for use every year while a big chunk of the preferred machines are in the shop? Also, when are 463 and 497 due for a major rebuild, and will the K-36's be ready?
I've often wondered what it would take to get all five K-36's in operation at once. Even if the money was there, would there be time/labor/space in the shop to get all seven "working" locomotives up at once?
Thanks for any responses,
Tom
