Most photos of Sumpter Valley Ry. tank car #100 show it with a black belt centered on the dome and down both sides of the tank. At a glance one might have assumed that was part of the paint job. Here is shot by Al Farrow, taken at South Baker that proves the black was merely years of accumulation of bunker C fuel that had over flowed the dome. I don't have a year for this shot, but presumably in the 1930's. Tank car #100 began life as UTLX 13055 and was used in Colorado. In 1934 it was purchased by the Sumpter Valley and remained in use up to closure of the mainline in 1947. The tank, frame and trucks are still with us, though swapped around a bit. The scan is from the SVRR Archive.
