CHAMA, N.M.—It will be at least midweek before the extent of fire damage to a historic railroad trestle outside Chama, N.M., is known.
A spokesman for the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad says engineers flown in from Missouri examined the Lobato Trestle four miles north of Chama on Saturday. They will return home and work on a report that the railroad expects by the end of the week.
Railroad spokesman Nick Quintana says the inspectors didn't say how badly they thought the trestle's steel superstructure might be damaged.
Railroad ties on the trestle caught fire on Wednesday and burned furiously for hours.
The railroad has halted departures from Chama. It is busing passengers to Antonito, Colo., for a train trip on the line's Colorado side.
New Mexico and Colorado jointly own the tourist railroad.

Good that the article says the Railroad is busing visitors to the Antonito side. Does anyone have pictures of the 489 (and 19?) with their westbound trains, or trains turning on the loop at Osier?
Thanks!
