Following is a small example to the satire used by the local newspaper regarding the railroads. No wonder the locals had low opinion on the line:

April 16, 1909 Durango Democrat
The average Rio Grande narrow gauge engine cannot be materially damaged by rolling down a mountain side--- they roll better than they run.
