Since Pearl Harbor Day has briefly diverted the NGDF to WWII, I thought I would attempt to inject a bit of narrow gauge into the discussion. Near Rabaul, in Papua New Guinea, there are lots of artifacts of the Japanese WWII naval base. There is a vast network of tunnels that housed everything the Japanese wanted to protect from US bombing raids. The Japanese also built a number of 2 foot gauge railroads that supported the construction of air fields and naval facilities. There were a large number of 4-cylinder gas-mechanical engines that worked these lines, the remnants of one of which my wife Patsy is admiring here. I do have photos of these engines in new condition, and will attach one when I can locate them.

Nearby is a Long Lance torpedo, the type of torpedo most likely used at Pearl Harbor. To the left is a drive unit for a Long Lance.
