After what has apparently been a very successful restoration and roll-out of 493 early this year, and after it's operation all year long on the Rockwood-Cascade run, I'm curious to hear more about it and what was learned. Do the crews like operating with oil-firing? Did the oil-firing function well? From an locomotive class perspective how did the K-37 do versus the normal K-36's? Were there any surprises in terms of hauling capabilities versus what was expected? Was the oil-burning found to be any more cost effective then coal? How was it received by the public and riders? What types of maintenance will it require over the winter in preparation for next year?
Hope this launches a good discussion.
